Company History

Founded in 1869 by Jakob Ammann in Madiswil, the company moved its works to Langenthal in 1896 and grew from a small mechanical workshop into an internationally active group focused on road construction, machines and plants. Ammann remains privately owned and operated by the founding family, combining Swiss engineering tradition with continuous investment in R&D.

    Jakob Ammann establishes a millwright business in his brother Andreas’s home in Madiswil.
  2. 1878
    Jakob builds a mechanical workshop powered by the village stream and brings his brother Ulrich in as an apprentice.
  3. 1886
    Ulrich Ammann takes over the business.
  4. 1896
    The company moves to Langenthal for access to the Central Railway.
  5. 1908
    Ammann obtains a patent for macadam machines.
  6. 1911
