Overview
The Ammann ARX 12-2 is a light articulated tandem vibratory roller built for narrow lanes, edge work and confined compaction sites. Both 820 mm steel drums are driven and vibrating, and the oscillating articulation joint keeps them in contact with the surface over uneven ground and alongside kerbs and other obstructions, so separate edge-compaction passes are usually unnecessary. Working weight is approximately 1,460–1,470 kg depending on configuration, and up to 1,610 kg fully equipped. Compaction output is set by a single 0.5 mm amplitude with a choice of two frequencies — 60 Hz and 70 Hz — producing 19 kN and 22 kN of centrifugal force respectively. Static linear load is 8.9 kg/cm on each drum. Ammann AVC automatic vibration control regulates vibration in line with machine movement, while Ammann Traction Control (ATC) manages drive between the drums on soft or sloping ground; gradeability is 30 per cent with vibration and 35 per cent without. A single electronic drive lever gives progressive starts and stops, the inside turning radius is 2,160 mm, the steering angle is ± 30° and the oscillation angle ± 6°, with a 48 mm drum offset for working close to a face. Power comes from a Kubota D1105 three-cylinder 1,123 cm³ diesel rated 15.6 kW at 2,600 rpm (SAE J1995), offered in EU Stage V and U.S. EPA Tier 4 final variants. Ammann diesel machines can also run on HVO renewable diesel. Standard equipment includes pressurised interval water sprinkling with two-stage filtration, fixed scrapers on both drums, a horizontally adjustable operator seat on an open platform with safety handles, a multi-function display, on-board diagnostics, a battery disconnection switch and a central lifting point. Tank capacities are 24 l fuel, 110 l water and 28.5 l hydraulic oil, on a 12 V / 77 Ah electrical system, and the machine is telematics-ready for Ammann ServiceLink.
